A brain/mind experience
I notice in the Companion Guide to the BFP that the terms brain and mind are used interchangeably. For many (and neuro-scientists in particular) the word mind is obsolete, “it’s like the word sky for astronomers”.
I will not attempt to enter the matter of mind versus brain ( it would not be very erudite) but here is my mind-brain experience during the “Match It” exercise of the BFP.
Is this how intuition happens?
When confronted by the 16 grid “Match-it!”exercise my heart sank…… I would never be able to complete it….but I had a very odd experience as I went about the task. Although I felt, subjectively, that I had no idea where to locate some of the matching sounds from a selection of 16, surprisingly, I knew the general area to look in. If I was lucky I found a match (not every time of course!). As my mind watched, my material brain seemed to locate the area and then make the pick for me……creepy.
In everyday life I would call it following a hunch, or doing it intuitively. Subjectively, my brain seems to be primed and a bit ahead of me….
Here is a simple example from everyday life:
Waiting casually at the traffic lights for the red light to change to green, you are intending to continue straight ahead. The green filter arrow (go right) lights up …… Do you occasionally find yourself reacting (inappropriately) by starting to release the brake and getting ready to step on the accelerator? Your brain seems to be ahead of you. You will notice some motorists (even in the left-hand lane) move their car just a little bit forward when the green right-turn arrow lights up. Despite listening to the radio or chatting, the deep structures of their brain are clearly in a state of readiness and a movement response to GREEN is part of that, regardless of direction. This is the attending brain automatically at work…. (LEAVE A COMMENT)“
